Nathan Champion at 50m, 100m and 200m Backstroke! Matthew, Owen and Izzy also achieve success

The first weekend of the South East Regional competition took place on the weekend, 16 & 17th May. We had three swimmers competing this weekend and the hard word and dedication to their training has paid off! Matthew Crawford had three butterfly events and Pb’d in all 3 and broke the club long course records in the 100m & 200m fly. Matthew made the100m fly final and finished 8th in the region. Owen was very impressive in the 100 & 200m breaststroke but swam an amazing 50m Breaststroke to take 4th place and break the 50m long course club record.

Nathan went from strength to strength over the weekend and came away as the South East Regional champion in the 50m, 100m & 200m backstroke events. This is the first time in club history that a swimmer from Dorking SC has won all 3 tittles in the same stroke, an amazing achievement. He also broke the club records in all these events.

The second weekend was the long distance races and we had Izzy Bryant competing in the 800m Free. Izzt had a great race swimming to 12th place and breaking the club record.

It was an incredible weekend and one of the proudest moments in my coaching career. The achievements of all these swimmers come from a great team of coaches at Dorking who week in and week out give their time and dedication. Champions are not made overnight but over a period of months and years. It is extremely important that their technical skills and fitness are worked on from a young age and the achievements come from all the hard work of all the coaching team. The coaching team can rightly feel proud of all our athletes.
